A child remembers the steps in a familiar game. Finds another way to solve a problem. Begins to explain an idea to a friend. These everyday moments help educators understand how learning is unfolding and decide how to support it next.
We built Progressions to help educators bring that understanding together. Now in Beta, it gives educators a place to review a child’s learning, connect supporting documents and record their professional judgement. Organisations opt in and choose which eligible centres use it.
The purpose is to make the connection between what educators notice, what they understand and what they do next easier to see.
Start with the learning
Educators build their understanding through relationships, conversations, play and observation. A meaningful moment needs context: what the child was trying to do, the support they received and what the educator has noticed before.
Progressions brings learning reviews and linked evidence into the same workflow. Educators can work through learning domains and indicators, choose a rating and add a summary explaining their assessment. Supporting documents keep the observations behind that assessment close at hand.
Keep professional judgement at the centre
A framework can offer a shared language for thinking about learning. The educator brings knowledge of the child and decides what the evidence means.
AERO’s Early Childhood Learning Trajectories, for example, help educators recognise learning and consider possible next steps. They support professional judgement, complement existing frameworks and describe learning without age-based checklists. Read AERO’s introduction to learning trajectories.
Progressions gives that reflective work a practical home in Mana. A recorded judgement stays connected to its supporting evidence, so an educator can return to it, reconsider it and explain their thinking to a colleague.
Make reflection useful
Documentation is useful when it helps educators understand learning and make intentional decisions. Progressions is designed to support that connection: a review can become a starting point for a conversation about what to offer next.
For a team, the judgement, summary and evidence provide a clearer basis for discussing a child’s learning. Keeping those pieces together helps make educators’ thinking visible while keeping the individual child in view.
Begin with your centre
Progressions is currently in Beta. Organisation administrators can enable it for eligible centres, including selected centres within their organisation. If your centre is interested, speak with your organisation administrator about getting started.
